As I hear the honking of geese and other birds above my head, I quickly look for falling crap. Then, unaffected, I am reminded of the beginning of the Michael Bublé song, Feeling Good:
Birds flying high You know how I feel Sun in the sky You know how I feel Breeze driftin' on by You know how I feel It's a new dawn It's a new day It's a new life For me And I'm feeling good
Looking up and seeing the birds usually signifies something. Likely, it is usually a clear, crisp day. And with each day comes new opportunities to restart the fundraising cycle. You can pick up the phone and thank a donor. You can meet with a prospective donor. Whatever you choose to do, you just have to move forward. As Bublé says, you’ll feel good.
The v-formation of the birds fascinated me. I even wrote about that here almost five years ago. Looking back on that post, I realize that everything I said still rings true. (Yay for me!) As a matter of fact, I think it has become even more apparent. Someone once told me that “anyone in the band can lead” and I think this illustrates that perfectly.
Just as anyone can lead, everyone has something to contribute. I have often found that I can learn something from anyone. The desire to expand your knowledge just has to be there. (Oh yah, sometimes, you actually have to ask a question!)
So, as the birds head down south for the winter, we should take a second and look up. The birds may actually be on to something here.
Until next week.
L’chaim,
jack
