Episode 61 of Tales From the Trenches Tuesdays again features Cuckoo Kochar president and founder of DCR/Phoenix Homes. We chat about philanthropy while living in a multi-generational home. Cuckoo had FOUR generations living under his roof at the same time — his father, Cuckoo and his wife, his son and his grandson. What a unique way to raise a family!
While Cuckoo is known for his strong business acumen, I found that his greatest strength is in the value he places on family. It was truly heartwarming to talk to him.
The biggest thing — it taught my children and grandchildren — how to take care of your elders… When my son was deigning his house — one of the things he did in the design — was to design an apartment for me and my wife. I said to him “You don’t need to do that — we’re in good shape. We would be happy to live in our own house and I can afford to have a nurse come and look after me.” My son said “It would be much easier for me to live with myself knowing that if you ever needed me, I’d be there.”
