EPISODE 106
Episode 106 of Tales From the Trenches Tuesdays features James Misner, the founder and owner of The Kipos Group. With over twenty years of fundraising leadership James brings both ‘best practice’ and ‘practical advice’ to clients, helping them raise hundreds of millions of dollars. James started The Kipos Group in 2022 as a direct response to the effects of the pandemic on fundraising programs around the country. He helps organizations (especially small and mid-sized ones) sustainably grow their revenue so that they can scale solutions to some of the world’s most intractable problems. James is also passionate about creating conditions for collective and individual success that are embedded into organizational culture.
The turning point in James’ fundraising journey came when he realized something crucial: the biggest barrier to meaningful community work wasn’t a lack of knowledge or good ideas. It was funding. He reframed his entire career around this insight. That sense of service transformed his initial reluctance into genuine passion for the work. Rather than focusing on program design, he decided the most impactful contribution he could make was becoming what he calls “the resource guy.”
Because I loved the work and the communities we served, I said, okay, the most loving thing for me to do now is to actually learn how to get more resources for folks.
